Please come and join adventurous professional photographers Mark Rayner the Buffalo Master and local Bali resident Dayak Dave Metcalf on a spectacular photography tour of the beautiful island of Bali.

The workshop is designed to challenge you as a photographer, teach you new skills and techniques under the watchful guidance of Mark and Dave, capture some amazing Images and give you a great insight into Balinese culture at a very special time of the year.

This is a workshop not to be missed.

Escorted by local Kiwi resident and photographer Dave Metcalf and profession photographer, Mark Rayner you will be taken to some very special non touristy places to photograph many aspects of Bali including stunning views over ricefields and Volcanos, Sunrise over Mount Agung and Lake Batur, ancient temples in the most historic area of Bali, Kusumba a fascinating fishing village and a opportunity to photograph the salt makers of the area and colourful fishing boats.

There will be plenty to interest bird and wildlife photographers as we include the famous Monkey Forest and Bali Bird Park, Rural Balinese life incl the duck farmers, however perhaps the greatest highlight will be the very special dance and music performance that will be performed by the local people from the ancient village of Pejeng.

This evening will be very unique, as not only traditional dance and music will be performed but also the amazing Kecak dance, followed by dinner under the stars in front of an ancient Balinese temple.
This performance will be truly unforgettable and will be performed only for the photography group in a natural setting beside the World Heritage listed Pakerisan river.

Itinerary and Program of Events

Day 1 March

Please plan to arrive in Bali no later than 12 noon on this day, and preferably plan to arrive a day or two before, however 3 pm is when the Photo Tour officially kicks off.

Upon arrival at Ngurah Rai airport in Denpasar, Bali you will be met by a Balinese who will escort you personally through Immigration and help you attain your 25 day Visa. There is no waiting in line and this special V.I.P service is a great way to arrive in Bali. You will then be driven to your accommodation in Ubud the cultural heart of Bali and the perfect place to be based for the duration of the photography tour.

As an option, you may extend your stay if you wish and stay a few more days in Bali).

The workshop will begin that afternoon at 3 pm with an introduction to Balinese culture and an overview from Mark on what to expect re photo opportunities.

Our welcome dinner on the first night will be a lavish feast of fine traditional Balinese food and opportunity to meet with the rest of the group and become acquainted.

Day 2

We start our first full day at 0530 departing for Sunrise over the Volcanoes from near Gunung Kawi.

Then we head down to the amazing temple, Gunung Kawi followed by the rice fields of Teggagaglung.

Lunch provided at Indus restaurant is a treat not soon forgotten.

After lunch we head back to the Puri Sunia for a rest up.

We depart for Pejeng at 4 pm. for an amazing dance performance includes Kecak Dance – Approx 100 performers in total!

Day 3

An early start today at 5am to depart for Sanur for sunrise, then Masceti to photograph purification ceremony on the beach with sunrise backdrop.

Breakfast in Sanur then to the black beaches of Kusumba to photograph the salt farmers and fish markets.
Back to Sunia by Noon.

After lunch join Mark and Dave for a review and critique session.

A free evening to relax of head into Ubud to explore.

Day 4

Another sunrise shoot over Mt Agung and Tirta Empale,
followed by the incredible Bali Bird Park and then onto the Monkey Forest.

Back to hotel by 1 pm for Lunch and review session in the afternoon.

Day 5

After breakfast we enjoy a Macro photography session.

Today is a day of Balinese culture as we watch and photograph important ceremonies.

Day 6

Today we visit the rice fields with beautiful Balinese models in all their finery.

We’ll also be chasing the duck farmer’s flock for iconic shots in the rice fields.

Later in the day Mark will do an In-depth session on Lightroom and Photoshop.

Day 7

Up early to Kintamani and Sunrise over the Volcanos.

Then Lake Batur and the Bali Aga Village.

Back to the Hotel in the afternoon for final review session and farewell dinner in Ubud at a special place.

About Dave:

David Metcalf, now living in Indonesia, has travelled extensively in Bali and Indonesia for the last thirteen years.

In his younger days Dave and his wife Stephanie travelled 20,000 kms by bicycle through 12 different countries.

Dayak Dave as he is known in Indonesia, due to his love and interest of the Dayak tribe of Kalimantan, has a great interest and passion for everything Indonesian and Bali in particular. Dayak Dave has been known to talk all day from morning until night about anything Indonesian, occasionally over a Bintang beer, from food delicacies, language and culture to Indonesian history and politics. Security and Comfort:

The photo tour will also be accompanied by Dana from North Bali who operates a well established tour company and a team of English speaking guides and drivers who can give wonderful insights into the Balinese way of life from a local perspective and will be available to answer any questions you may have.

In fact, the Balinese are very open people and happy to talk about their culture and philosophies. For those who have not been to Bali before you will find the Balinese a gentle, happy, very friendly people who love having their photos taken.

Security and safety will be paramount and all vehicles will have seat belts, mosquito repellant, hand wipes and cold towels.

Photographic Prerequisites:

This amazing photography tour workshop is designed to suit the beginner or serious enthusiast. A digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera is recommended, however, any camera that has manual functions would also be suitable. Best lenses to bring include a longer zoom and wide angled lens (and macro lens if you own one). A sturdy tripod is essential, especially for our landscape and macro photography sessions.

A deposit of $ 500 per person is required to reserve a place on the tour. We anticipate places will fill up very quickly, as we are not accepting any more than 10 participants. The deposit is fully refundable for cancellations 90 days before the start of the tour. Full balance is due 60 days before the start of the workshop.
