Come and join Pamela Jennings and Mark Rayner for an amazing 9 day Photographic Journey through the wildflower hotspots of Western Australia.
Join us as we travel north from Perth into Western Australia’s Wildflower Country.  Dotted with small country towns we travel to hot wildflower destinations like Moora, Mingenew and Mullewa.  Be prepared to photograph landscapes of Everlastings and clumps delicate Spider Orchids, Candy Orchids and if we are lucky the Ruby Spider Orchid.
During our tour there will be hundreds of different species of wildflowers to photograph and getting to our nightly destination can be a challenge as we stop for this wildflower or that shrub. Over the nine days we will search out the best  flowering locations and adapt our itinerary to suit.

No trip into wildflower country would be complete without photographing the unique Wreath Flower (Leschenaultia macrantha) only found in sandy and gravely soils inland from Geraldton.
And where there are flowering plants there are birds, so there will be lots of opportunities to photograph various Parrots and Cockatoos, Rufus Whistlers and Pardalotes, Wattle Birds, Bustards and more.
It’s not all wildflowers and birds though, we will  visit Yarra Yarra Lakes that is part of a large freshwater system and makes it’s way eventually to the coast, do an Astro Shoot and photograph the Pinnacles in the day and at night.  We visit Australia’s only monastic town at New Norcia and see kilometres of golden Canola paddocks.
We spend a couple of nights in Perth to ensure we have covered your WA wildflower needs by visiting several national parks, reserves and wetlands to photograph as many species as we can including the Kangaroo Paw, Cat Paw and more varieties of Orchids.

Day-to-Day Program

Day 1

Meet at our hotel 4pm for briefing.
Visit the beautiful Kings Park for our first flower shoot followed by our welcome dinner.

Day 2

Depart Perth and drive north towards Moora. We stop to photograph the historic buildings of New Norcia, Australia’s only monastic town along the way.

There are many opportunities to stop for wildflowers along the way. In the afternoon we visit the Moora Wildflower Farm and spend the night in Moora, a town renown for its wildflowers in spring.

Day 3

We visit a little known reserve on the outskirts of Moora. There is the chance to photograph the endangered Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo and find our first lot of orchids amongst the everlastings.

From here we travel north along the “Midlands Route” to Watheroo, Jingemia Cave and Coorow. We start to see large paddocks of brilliant yellow Canola, which are hard for a landscape photographer to resist. From Corrow we cut across to the “Wildflower Way” stopping at many locations like Waddy Forest Hall for Donkey Orchids, Feather Lilies.

Everywhere you look something is in flower and this brings in the birds like the Rufus Whistler and Striated Pardalote. We drive on to Perenjori and into Bowgada Nature Reserve where fingers crossed there will be masses pink, white and yellow everlastings through the bushland.

Passing through more wheat and canola paddocks we continue on to Mullewa. After dinner we're taking you out in the wheat paddocks for an Astro photography session under crystal clear skies.
Day 4

Early departure for the 40 km drive to Pindar the best place in WA to view the unique Wreath Flower (Leschenaultia macrantha) only found in sandy and gravely soils inland from Geraldton.

After this we back track a bit and head south to Coalseam National Park on of WA’s best places to see sprawling fields of white, pink and yellow Everlastings. It is well worth spending quality time here and you may even get a shot of a Mulga Parrot and Australian Ringneck ‘twenty eight’ and nesting Pink & Grey Galahs.

Overnight in Mingenew.

Day 5
Just out of Mingenew we check out Depot Hill Reserve for Everlastings, Orchids and pretty yellow Cowslips. We head south to Three Springs and Carnamah stopping as needed for wildflowers along the roadside.

From Carnamah we go to Yarra Yarra Lakes where we can spend time taking landscapes shots of lake (pink in the right light) and photographing the flowering bushland and bush birds. From the lake we drive along the inland roads Eneabba and onto the coastal town of Cervantes.

Tonight and tomorrow night we have the flexibility to do a night shoot at the Pinnacles in Nambung National Park. (weather permitting).

Overnight Cervantes.

Day 6
Today we visit species rich Lesueur National Park with more than 900 species of flora, 10% of WA’s known flora. We will be on the lookout for the unusual and the uncaptured! We may see several varieties of Kangaroo Paws. It also supports a wide variety of birds with 122 species recorded.

If we still aren’t satisfied we can visit Badgingarra National Park and then loop back to the coast to Cervantes. Another chance for a night shoot at the Pinnacles.

Day 7

Today we head south to Perth via the coast road. Stopping at Yanchep National Park and the Warwick Conservation Park. We hope to see heaps of Donkey Orchids and Granny bonnets. If time allows we can check out Hepburn Heights Reserve & Star Swamp Reserve for a variety of flowers we may not have seen yet. We may finish at Kings Park for a sunset shoot over the city, or we might choose a coastal location along one of the many west facing beaches of Perth. Overnight in Perth area.

Day 8

Today we visit a combination of Conservation Reserves and National Parks in the region, seeking out wildflowers we haven't captured yet.
Wireless Hill Park has a very good range of flowers in spring. Red and green kangaroo paws are prolific and it is one of the few places near Perth where there is also a good crop of the smaller cat's paws. There are also many orchids. Early in spring there are Greenhoods, then Donkey orchids and, later, Spider orchids.
Farewell dinner tonight and time to reflect over the past 8 day’s wildflower hunting in WA. Overnight in Perth.
